Pep Guardiola has revealed Erling Haaland suffered a knock, hence the decision to substitute him against Borussia Dortmund

Haaland cut a very angry figure on Tuesday, October 25 after he was taken off during the Champions League clash involving Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City.

This was the Norwegian’s first game at the Signa Iduna Park since securing a now-famous summer move to Manchester.

Despite his frightening goal-scoring form that has seen him rack 24 goals across all competitions so far, Haaland had a fairly quiet first half against his former side.

According to Guardiola, his star striker had a nibbling injury and had to be taken off.

BBC further reports the gaffer however did not specify whether the knock was serious.

"[There were] three things. I saw him so tired. Second one, he had a little bit of influenza in his body. Like Joao - Joao had a fever," Guardiola revealed

Distraught Haaland

Fans noted that Haaland’s former teammate Mats Hummels consistently got the better of him at the Dortmund defence, and the partnership with new arrival Nico Schlotterbeck seemed to be paying off.

With the scores 0-0 in the first half, Pep Guardiola decided to switch things up in the second half, and part of his changes was taking off his prolific striker Haaland.

Joao Cancelo was also hauled off for Manuel Akanji, while Haaland was replaced by Bernardo Silva at the interval.

Five minutes into the second half and cameras panned to Haaland on the bench and the striker did not look happy at all to be sitting there.

Haaland will presumably have been angered more by the fact that City got a penalty, which was subsequently missed in the second half.

Phil Foden was brought down clumsily by Dortmund’s Emre Can, and Riyad Mahrez stepped up to take the spot kick, but the home goalkeeper Gregor Kobel guessed right to keep the Algerian out.

In the end, both sides settled for a point, which was enough for Man City to secure top spot in Group G.

Guardiola slammed for taking off Haaland

Sports Brief also reported on fans’ reaction to the Haaland substitution on Tuesday.

Many of the fans had no idea Haaland was suffering from a knock at the time and they took to social media to express their discontent, especially after Riyad Mahrez missed the penalty.

Haaland is well on course to break a stunning record in the Premier League this season.
