Rangers striker, Cyriel Dessers, has responded to his critics in the best possible way.

Despite being slammed for his occasional profligacy in front of goal, the Nigerian has delivered for the Scottish club, and his latest milestone is a testament to his importance to the team.

The 27-year-old forward hit the 20-goal mark on Sunday, April 28, helping the 55-time champions secure a 2-1 victory over St. Mirren in the league.

Speaking after the match, the Super Eagles star was confident and relaxed, shrugging off the criticism he has faced this season. He stressed that his contributions to the team go beyond just scoring goals.

“Throughout my career, I know that if I play games, I will always score goals. I’m maybe not the most beautiful or clean striker. But I think it’s easy to see what’s not there. If you look only at the goals, the numbers speak for themselves," he said, as quoted by Soccernet.

Dessers has been impressive in his debut season, bagging 14 goals in 31 league appearances. Coach Philippe Clement has consistently shown faith in him, giving him the most playing time among the strikers at the club.

He received severe backlash after missing a glorious chance against Mali in the final fixture of the March international window.

The Super Eagles suffered a lacklustre defeat against their West African neighbours at the Stade de Marrakech in Morocco. Coach Eric Chelle's side recorded their first victory against Nigeria in over 48 years.

One moment continues to play in the minds of many team fans, which was the 64th-minute Dessers miss.

As captured in the video shared on social media by All Things Super Eagles, the forward was played through on goal by Kelechi Iheanacho following a counterattack, only to shoot over the crossbar.

Dessers criticises Jose Peseiro’s tactics

Sports Brief reported that Dessers slammed Jose Peserio's tactics after the team beat Ghana in a friendly.

The striker said they wanted to be more attacking and not defensive like they did under the Portuguese.

Goals from Dessers and Ademola Lookman were enough to secure a 2-1 win after Jordan Ayew's late consolation.
