African Games: Ghana Beat Nigeria in Volleyball, Set to Face Egypt in Semis

Ghana secured a 3-1 victory over Nigeria in volleyball, earning a spot in the semi-finals of the ongoing African Games.

The Black Spikers won the first set, lost the second, and rallied to claim victory in the third and fourth sets, ultimately eliminating Nigeria from the competition at the Borteyman Sports Complex.

In a video shared on social media, skipper Daniel Benefo, along with teammates Bernard Attom, Emmanuel Johnson, Alhassan Imoro, Nicholas Tetteh, Paul Akan, and Azumah Benjamin, delivered a courageous performance that elicited enthusiastic cheers from the appreciative crowd.

Ghana and Egypt's road to the semis

Ghana will cross swords with Egypt in the semi-final on Friday with the chance to advance to the final at stake, per Graphic Online.

In the preliminary round, the West African side defeated Chad 3-0, beat Kenya 3-0 and recorded a 3-0 victory over the Gambia before meeting Nigeria in the quarter-finals.

On the contrary, Egypt advanced to the penultimate round by securing a 3-0 victory against the Gambia. Prior to this, they had overcome Nigeria with a 3-1 win, narrowly defeated Cameroon 3-2, and secured a 3-0 victory against Burkina Faso.

In the other semi-final match, Cameroon will face Kenya. Cameroon secured a 3-1 victory against Chad, while Kenya defeated Burkina Faso 3-0 in the quarter-finals.

Nigeria beats Ghana to men's 4x100m relay gold

In another publication, an electrifying race in the men's 4x100-meter relay, Team Nigeria surged ahead of Ghana by a margin of two microseconds to claim gold at the 2023 African Games in Accra, as reported by Sports Brief.

The Nigerian quartet, consisting of Sunday Israel Okon, Ekanem Consider, Akintola Alaba Olukunle, and Itsekiri Usheoritse, sought redemption for their previous loss to the Ghanaian team, who had clinched the gold medal five years ago in Rabat.

Clocking an impressive time of 38.41 seconds, Nigeria executed flawless baton exchanges, particularly noticeable from the third leg to the anchor leg, anchored by Usheoritse.
