Former Brighton stars, Marc Cucurella, and, Moises Caicedo, endured a frustrating evening at their former club, and the defender clapped back at the fans.

The Blues travelled to the AMEX Stadium knowing all three points would boost their European football chances next season, and they did their job to secure it.

Cole Palmer, assisted by the maligned Cucurella, gave the Blues the lead in the first half before Christopher Nkunku latched on to a cutback from his compatriot Malo Gusto to make it 2-0.

The Seagulls pulled one back in the 97th minute, but the Blues survived the nervy, ending with 10 men after captain Reece James was sent off for kicking out at João Pedro.

Cucurella trolls Brighton after Chelsea win

The Blues had two former Brighton stars, Cucurella and Caicedo, for whom they paid a combined £178 million in the lineup. The two players received endless boos from the crowd.

The Spanish full-back got an assist and won a penalty, which the video assistant referee overturned, and also got a bloodied eye, the cause of which is unknown.

After the win, he took to his Instagram page and shared photos of his blood-stained face and that of WWE superstar John Cena, which aimed a dig at his former club.

Cucurella, in an EA Sports commercial, as seen in a video shared on Chelsea’s X page, name-dropped Cena when asked for the meaning of the acronym “WWW,” claiming he thought he had WWE.

Goalscorer Palmer, also in the video alongside youngster Alfie Gilchrist, wrote “www” in the comments section.

There seems to be a connection between the wrestler and the footballer. The 15-time world champion shared a no-context picture of the La Masia graduate on Instagram last year after Brentford beat Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge.

Pochettino explains bizarre Cucurella’s substitution

Sports Brief previously reported on Pochettino explaining Cucurella’s bizarre substitution during the 5-0 pre-season win over League One club Wrexham.

The defender was taken off at half-time but returned to the pitch with minutes left to play, a scene you would only see in unofficial and not competitive games.
