Alexander Volkanovski's reign as UFC featherweight king is over after a stunning loss to Ilia Topuria at UFC 298 on Saturday.

Volkanovski lost via knockout in the second round, with the Australian falling victim to a vicious right hook by Topuria.

Fans took to social media to react to Volkanovski's shock defeat in Anaheim.

UFC fans react to Volkanovski's loss

Some MMA fans wrote that they had just witnessed the end of an era.

Dominic Fabian noted the great champions that have lost in the UFC and left the promotion, writing: “Izzy lost, Usman lost, Ngannou has left, Volkanovski lost. End of an era and don't know that I'm ready for it."

Another fan praised both fighters, writing: "End of an era. Volkanovski is a legend and anyone that thinks his story is over is wrong. Topuria is that good."

Chris Rini can't believe what he just saw, writing: "He did it. Amazing. Amazing. End of an era. Topuria stops Alexander Volkanovski in the second round."

Another fan blamed Islam Makhachev for Volkanovski's loss, writing: "End of an era to Volkanovski. What a good run. Islam fight ruin Volks."

Topuria makes history at UFC 298

Topuria made history with his upset win over Volkanovski, becoming the first Spanish champion in the UFC.

The 27-year-old improved his record to 15-0 with the victory, per The Independent.

Topuria rocked the Australian legend with a right hook, knocking him out cold with that finish, per Fox Sports.

The boxing legend drew up his list in two separate interviews.

He overlooked all popular African fighters in the UFC, naming Royce Gracie, Jon Jones, Colby Covington, and Khabib Nurmagomedov on his list.
