This was a rematch of their UFC 196 fight in 2016. This time, the stakes were much higher as the two fighters squared off for the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship.

The five-round title bout lived up to expectations, with both fighters engaging in a high-level chess match with their tactics inside the cage.

The two combatants had minimal grappling exchanges, with Shevchenko and Nunes opting to primarily engage in a stand-up battle. The fight was too close to call, which was also reflected in the judges’ scorecards.

Nunes was declared the winner by split decision, with judges Sal D'Amato and David Therjen scoring it 48-47 for the champion. Tony Weeks gave the bout to Shevchenko, scoring it 48-47 for 'The Bullet.'

Fans were also divided in their take regarding the verdict, with Shevchenko supporters arguing that she outworked the champion for most of the fight.

2. UFC 196: Shevchenko vs. Nunes 1 (2016)

The epic second fight between Shevchenko and Nunes couldn’t have happened without their equally thrilling first showdown.

Nunes was the odds-on favorite in this battle, and she showed her class in the second round. She cut Shevchenko open with a series of brutal elbows from half-guard. Nunes then spent most of the round beating the challenger up from the top position, per USA Today.

Just when it seemed Shevchenko would lose by knockout or submission, she battled back late in the second round. She even got to the top position before the horn ended Round 2, proving to the MMA world that she belonged at this stage.

Shevchenko completely turned the tables in the final round, with Nunes the one looking gassed. Nunes survived to the final horn, with the Brazilian winning by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-27, 29-27).

3. UFC on Fox 20: Shevchenko vs. Holm (2016)

Shevchenko’s first main event of her UFC career was a huge success as she defeated former UFC women’s Bantamweight champion Holly Holm.

Both fighters were coming off losses, so the stakes were high for the two of them. They produced a five-round classic, with Shevchenko emerging victorious by unanimous decision.

4. UFC 231: Shevchenko vs. Jedrzejczyk (2018)

Shevchenko started her long reign as flyweight champion on December 8, 2018, when she defeated Joanna Jedrzejczyk in their title fight.

The five-round bout didn’t live up to the hype, with Shevchenko dominating Jedrzejczyk throughout the fight. 'Bullet' won via unanimous decision, with all three judges scoring it 49-46 for Shevchenko.

5. UFC 261: Shevchenko vs. Andrade (2021)

Shevchenko put on a show at UFC 261, the first event with a packed crowd after COVID restrictions were lifted in Florida. Many expected Jessica Andrade to provide a stern test for Shevchenko, given her outstanding wrestling skills.

Shevchenko showed why she is one of the best fighters in the UFC today, beating Andrade in her own game. She finished the job in the second round, knocking Andrade out with elbows.

Greatest fights of Jon Jones

Sports Brief recently reported on Jon Jones’ greatest UFC fights.

Topping the list was his first fight against Alexander Gustafsson. Jones won by unanimous decision, but he was tested mightily by the lanky Swede.

Also making the list were his fights against Daniel Cormier, Lyoto Machida, and Vitor Belfort.
