  • Giannis Antetokounmpo suffered an injury scare in the game against Chicago
  • His status for All-Star Weekend remains uncertain after spraining his wrist
  • He was named a team captain for this year’s All-Star Game alongside LeBron James

Thursday’s game against the Chicago Bulls was a mixed bag for Giannis Antetokounmpo.

He made history in the first quarter, with the Milwaukee Bucks star becoming the all-time team leader in assists.

That joy was short-lived, though, as he suffered a wrist injury early in the second quarter. "The Greek Freak" sprained his wrist after falling into the stanchion.

Antetokounmpo trailed Bulls guard Coby White as the latter drove to the basket and went for the block off the backboard. He used his right hand to break his fall, resulting in a sprain, according to Bleacher Report.

Bucks extend winning streak

Giannis’ departure did not affect the Bucks as they cruised to a 112-100 win over the Bulls. Milwaukee has won each of its last 12 games, making them the hottest team heading into the All-Star break.

As we head to Utah for All-Star Weekend, the question is, will Giannis be good to go for the Skills Challenge and the All-Star Game?

He is set to team up with his brothers Thanasis and Alex for the Skills Challenge on Saturday. He is also one of the team captains for this year’s All-Star Game, with Antetokounmpo and LeBron James tasked to select their teammates in the All-Star Draft.

Giannis' All-Star Game status

After the game, Coach Mike Budenholzer had some good news. He said that initial reports on Giannis’ injury were "hopeful" and that the X-ray on his wrist was "clean."

He added that they would see how Giannis feels tomorrow and in the next few days. When asked about his star player’s participation in the All-Star Game, Budenholzer said he had no idea if Giannis would travel to Salt Lake City.

Skills Challenge format and participants

Sports Brief recently reported on the format and participants of the 2023 NBA Skills Challenge. Three teams will square off in this competition. They are Team Antetokounmpo, Team Jazz, and Team Rooks.

Team Jazz will be bannered by Utah players Jordan Clarkson, Walker Kessler, and Collin Sexton. Team Rooks will be represented by Paolo Banchero, Jaden Ivey, and Jabari Smith.

With Giannis injured, the Antetokounmpo brothers’ participation in the event is suddenly up in the air.
