  • Antonio Conte's decision to leave Heung-min Son on the bench against Leicester City appeared to have worked wonders
  • Son scored a hat trick in the second half as a substitute, his first goals in any competition this season
  • His manager has now joked that maybe he should start more games from the bench to help him score more goals

Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte has joked that he will consider leaving Heung-min Son on the bench more often.

Son started Spurs' game against Leicester City on the bench for the first time this season after a frustrating opening few weeks of the campaign.

The South Korean, last season's Golden Boot winner, was yet to score this season despite Spurs' impressive form in the Premier League.

He was introduced in the 59 minute as Conte looked to put the game to bed. Spurs were leading 3-2 at that time.

Son then went on to put on his best performance of the season by grabbing a 13-minute hattrick. Two of the goals were absolute worldies as Spurs piled more pressure on Brendan Rodgers.

Speaking after the game, as quoted by the Daily Mail, Conte joked that maybe dropping Son on the bench did the trick of him rediscovering his form.

I am really happy for Sonny today, you know what I think of the player. I told him, "Maybe we can repeat this experiment if you're going to score three goals in 30 minutes," but I was joking.

Spurs now head into the international break in the top three with 17 points. They face Arsenal when Premier League action resumes in a fortnight.

Football fans laud Heung-min Son after impressive showing against Leicester City

Sports Brief had earlier reported that football fans came up with the same conclusion about Heung Min Son after the South Korean cameo hat trick against Leicester City on Saturday, September 17.

The 30-year-old was dropped to the bench by boss Antonio Conte, who was keen on rotating his squad for the Leicester game.

Upon his introduction on the hour mark, the South Korean, who was the Premier League joint top scorer last season, reminded fans of his quality with two trademark long-range strikes.
