  • SuperSport United will host Orlando Pirates in the final DStv Premiership match of the season at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville tonight
  • There is something to play for between either side, whether it is sneaking into an MTN 8 position for Matsatsantsa, or an unlikely CAF Confederations Cup spot for the Buccaneers
  • The last encounter at the Orlando Stadium was one of the games of the season, with Pirates pulling off a remarkable comeback with a last-minute winner

The final match of the 2021-22 DStv Premiership could turn out to be another entertaining one between SuperSport United and Orlando Pirates.

The match will take place at the Lucas 'Masterpieces' Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville, kicking off at 6 pm on SuperSport PSL, channel 202. The fixture will round off Pirates' three outstanding fixtures due to their CAF Confederations Cup commitments.

Goal reported that this is the last opportunity for the Buccaneers (sixth, 44 points) to sneak into third place, which will see them qualify for the Confederations Cup next season. Royal AM, on 47 points, currently sits in that position, hoping that Pirates does not hammer United by five goals, which is the only way the former can overtake Thwihli Thwahla.

United, in ninth place on 37 points, needs only a victory to ensure that they qualify for next season's MTN 8, as reported by IOL. Golden Arrows occupies eighth place on 40 points, but has a far more inferior goal difference than Matsatsantsa's, and will be hoping for a draw or the latter's defeat to remain there.

The last match between United and Pirates was a classic at Orlando Stadium in March. The visitors raced into a 2-0 lead courtesy of Kegan Johannes and Gampani Lungu, before two penalties from Deon Hotto and a 93rd minute super strike from Goodman Mosele saw the home team run out 3-2 winners.
