In the absence of regular captain Marquinhos, Kimpembe and Marco Verratti usually sit second and third in the captaincy hierarchy at the club, GOAL reports.

However, Mbappe was given the armband for the first time, and he embraced the extra responsibility by delivering a five-star performance in the French Cup.

The 2022 World Cup Golden Boot winner was in sensational form, scoring a staggering five goals against the sixth-tier side.

Following the confirmation of Mbappe as the new vice-captain, Kimpembe, who is nursing an Achilles tendon injury, fumed at the decision.

“Over the past few hours, I have been able to hear and read a lot about myself." He began as quoted by GFFN.
The 27-year-old defender continued: "Therefore, I wish to make things clear to avoid spreading false information about me.
"I was not made aware of this decision, this is completely false… That said, I will always respect the decisions of the club.”

When was the last time Kimpembe wore the armband?

Kimpembe last wore the captain's armband for Les Parisiens on October 29 against Troyes - a game Kylian Mbappe also started.

Mbappe appointed deputy captain

Kylian Mbappe has been named vice-captain at Paris Saint-Germain following his historic five-goal haul on Monday evening.

Mbappe notched a staggering five goals as PSG completed a demolishing exercise against amateur club Pays de Cassel in the French Cup.

Apparently, it will not be the last time Mbappe leads PSG following confirmation of his role as the deputy captain of the club by head coach Christophe Galtier.

Mbappe chalks goalscoring milestone

Sports Brief earlier reported that Kylian Mbappe and Paris Saint-Germain were in ruthless fashion when they crossed paths with amateur club Pays de Cassel in the French Cup.

The Frenchman scored a stunning first-half hat-trick in the space of 11 minutes before adding two more in the second half as PSG ran riot.

Aside from his ruthlessness in front of the goal, the 24-year-old also provided an assist for Neymar, ensuring he had a hand in six of the seven goals scored by PSG.
