  • The joke is firmly on the critics of Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro, following his team's MTN8 success
  • When he was appointed as the Buccaneers' coach, he was an unknown quantity, being referred to as a 'plumber'
  • After winning the MTN8 final last Saturday, the club has had the last laugh with a witty retort of its own

Those who labelled Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro a plumber are having a healthy serving of crow stuffed inside a humble pie.

Not only has the Spaniard turned them into Mamelodi Sundowns' challengers, but he has also already locked up silverware at the first time of asking, winning the MTN8 final with the club after a 1-0 win over AmaZulu last Saturday.

The Buccaneers have not forgiven those who insulted him. They released a humorous animated video of Riveiro 'plumbing' the team toward Wafa Wafa cup glory.

Pirates will have the opportunity to follow this up with more silverware this weekend, when they compete for the Carling Black Label Cup on Saturday at Soccer City. They will collide with Kaizer Chiefs in one semi-final, while Sundowns will meet AmaZulu in the other.

Revenge will be on Bucs' mind, having lost to their arch-rivals two weekends ago in the DStv Premiership courtesy of a legendary Yusuf Maart goal.

Monnapule Saleng punishes Veli Mothwa

Monnapule Saleng's sensational free kick, which inspired Orlando Pirates to the win over AmaZulu in the MTN8 final, was no fluke.

In the 25th minute of the match, Saleng wickedly curled the ball in over Usuthu goalkeeper Veli Mothwa in what appeared to be a cross, as reported by Sports Brief. However, a viral video showed that he had attempted this earlier in the competition.

SuperSport Football shared the video on Facebook, juxtaposing the goal with a free kick he took against Mamelodi Sundowns in the first leg of the semi-finals at Orlando Stadium last month.

The match ended 0-0, before Saleng proceeded to destroy the Brazilians in the second leg at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane three weeks later. He scored a brace while also assisting Kermit Erasmus in a match where Buccaneers ran out 3-0 winners.
