  • Stefano Pioli believes AC Milan are no longer in pole position to win the Serie A title this season after they were held to a goalless draw by Torino
  • Pioli maintains there are no favourites among Milan, Napoli, and Inter for the Scudetto with just 6 matchdays to the end of the league
  • The Rossoneri are just two points clear at the top of the Serie A table but have played a game more than Inter Milan in second place

AC Milan manager, Stefano Pioli has rued his team’s chances of reclaiming the Italian Serie A title from Inter Milan after the Rossoneri suffered a setback in their title bid against Torino.

The 18-time league winners maintained the top spot in the league despite a goalless draw against the Turin side but have played a game more than defending champions Inter Milan.

According to a report via Football Italia, Pioli has insisted there are no favourites for the league title and expects the fight for the Scudetto to go down to the wire.

“For the past two or three weeks, whoever is dubbed the favourites tends to slip up. It is a very competitive league, every game is tough and you can take nothing for granted.
“I do not like to think that way. Don’t forget in the last three weeks people have said we were the super favourites, then Napoli, then Inter. It’s going to go down to the wire.”

AC Milan has amassed a total of 68 points from 32 games played and are just 2 points above Inter Milan in the 2nd spot with 66 points from 31 games played and Napoli also with 66 points from 32 games played.

Four players could leave AC Milan this summer

Meanwhile, AC Milan could be set for a tough summer as four players are being touted to leave the Rossoneri when the current campaign ends.

According to Sempremilan, Brahim Diaz, Junior Messias, Franck Kessie, and Romagnoli are all expected to leave the Milan club at the end of the 2021/22 season.

AC Milan could save a lot of money this summer from these players sales to put towards other things, as Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara have some team selections to make.

Referee burst to tears after error costs Rossoneri win

Earlier, Sports Brief reported A referee in the Serie A had to be consoled by players after making a controversial call that eventually led to title contenders AC Milan suffering a shock 2-1 loss to minions Spezia.

An injury-time goal at the San Siro condemned the Rossoneri to defeat in a game where they needed and were expected to scoop all three points to keep up with City rivals Inter Milan.

The game could have gone a lot different if referee Marco Serra had not made a controversial call late in the game.
