Heartwarming Video of Ukraine Legend Asking Former Club to Support His Country’s Quest for Peace Drops

Andriy Shevchenko is calling for peace for the people of Ukraine following the war waged against them by neighbours Russia.

In a video posted on Twitter by AC Milan, the former Ukraine captain and ex-player of the Italian giants pleaded with the club to support his country's quest for peace.

The video showed live on a giant screen before AC Milan's clash with Inter Milan in the Coppa Italia on Wednesday night.

The situation in Ukraine has left many leaving the country to neighbouring Poland and Romania.

Shevchenko and several sporting organisations have showed support to Ukraine as the conflict wages on, hoping peace will eventually prevail.

FIFA and UEFA are issuing strict sanctions against Russia, with the UEFA Champions League final and other events scheduled to take place in Moscow cancelled.

Meanwhile, the game between AC Milan and Inter Milan saw both clubs wear flags of Ukraine on their shirts before the match.

The game ended in a goalless stalemate.

Andriy Shevchenko's message before the Coppa Italia game

He said:

"Dear Italian friends, I ask you from San Siro to give your support for peace in Ukraine.
"The Ukrainian people want peace, because peace has no borders, because what unites us must be stronger than which divides us."
"Let's stop war together. I embrace you all."

Two Ukraine footballers killed from Russia attacks

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that two footballers have been reported dead during the Russian invasion of Ukrainian, it has emerged.

Vitalii Sapylo, a 21-year-old player for second division team Karpaty Lviv and Dmytro Martynenko, a 25-year-old player for regional side FC Gostomel were killed by the Russian military during the vicious attack in Kyiv on Tuesday.

The two Ukrainian footballers were tank commanders who were killed while defending Kyiv.
