Fernandes reportedly asked for sub

One of the most bizarre things from the match happened deep in the second half when Fernandes appeared to ask to be substituted.

According to The Sun, the Portuguese midfielder was seen gesticulating to his bench as Anthony Elanga prepared to replace Marcus Rashford.

The incident sparked claims by a section of fans that the skipper had asked to come off.

Fernandes responds to sub claims

The former Sporting Lisbon ace has now come out to address the claims, with the midfielder insisting he did not ask to come off.

The Sun reports that Fernandes has since made it clear to the club staff that he was not asking to be substituted.

According to the United playmaker, he was only seeking clarification on his playing position after the introduction of Elanga.

Meanwhile, subbing on Elanga made no impact for the Red Devils, who went on to ship in more goals and scored none.

Casemiro berates Bruno

Sports Brief previously reported on Casemiro apparently tearing into Fernandes despite having won the Carabao Cup moments earlier.

The Brazilian scored the first goal at Wembley as the Red Devils finally ended their six-year trophy drought at the expense of Newcastle.

Immediately after the final whistle, Casemiro appeared to confront Fernandes, likely about the captain's missed opportunity in the match.
