Cristiano Ronaldo once hinted that he would likely end his career ‘playing at top level’, and those comments have come back to bite him after the infamous move to Al Nassr.

The Saudi Arabia club announced the signing of the superstar on Friday, December 30, bringing an end to speculation on where he would play next.

Ronaldo, according to reports from BBC, signed a two-year playing deal with the club, but is likely to still be part of the team after retirement on an ambassadorial capacity.

“I’m thrilled for a new experience in a different league and a different country, the vision that Al Nassr has is very inspiring”. Ronaldo said after joining his new club.
“I’m very excited to join my teammates, and to help the team to achieve more success”.

“Highest level”

At this point, it is hard to bet against Ronaldo ending his career in the Saudi Arabia league.

Looking back in time, it is not what the forward wanted, at least not initially.

In fact, cheeky fans dug up an interview from 2015 where he boldly declared his desire to always play on top level up until he hang up his boots.

Specifically, he stated that he would not want to end his career “in a place like Qatar or USA”

In the interview on the Jonathan Ross Show, Ronaldo was asked about the twilight days of his career, to which he replied:

“In my mind, I want to finish at the top level. I want to finish with dignity at a good club,”

Cr7 boosts Al Nassr’s social media

Sports Brief also reported how Cristiano Ronaldo massively boosted Al Nassr’s social media, hours after the transfer announcement.

Al Nassr was struggling for followers prior to the Cristiano Ronaldo announcement on Friday.

But as at December 31, the club’s Instagram has blown up after a photo of the five-time Ballon d’Or winner on their page and they currently have more than 3 million followers.
