  • Manchester United had the chance to cash in on Cristiano Ronaldo but the club missed the opportunity
  • The Portuguese superstar parted ways with the club after his contract was terminated in November
  • He has been heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabia side Al-Nassr
  • The same Al-Nassr wanted to sign Ronaldo in the summer for a fee but United were adamant at the time that he was not for sale

Cristiano Ronaldo would have left Manchester United for a fee last summer but the club failed to capitalize on the opportunity.

The 37-year-old’s contract was ripped up by mutual consent in November, making him a free agent.

One of the few clubs interested in Ronaldo’s services, since he severed ties with Manchester United, is Saudi Arabia outfit Al Nassr.

Things would have been much different if Manchester United had agreed to sell the superstar last summer.

Ronaldo wanted out

There were always signs that all was not well with Ronaldo and Manchester United from April, after he lost one of his newborn twins.

The former Real Madrid man ended up failing to appear for his team’s pre-season tour, only making a cameo against Rayo Vallecano.

As the 2022/23 season drew closer, Ronaldo dropped a bombshell that he wanted to leave the club for one playing in the Champions League.

After those reports, he was linked with a move to the Middle East, but that never materialized at the time, with ESPN reporting that United were offered £25m for his services.

How CR7 reacted to being benched

Sports Brief also reported on Cristiano Ronaldo’s reaction after being left on the bench in the game against Switzerland.

Fernando Santos stunned fans on Tuesday night, December 6, with his team selection for the crucial round of 16 tie staged at Lusail Stadium.

Ronaldo was replaced with youngster Goncalo Ramos - and the tactical move paid off as Ronaldo's replacement went on to net a sensational hat-trick to help Portugal hammer Switzerland 6-1.
