  • Raheem Sterling leaves Manchester City as the greatest goal contributed for the club under Pep Guardiola
  • The England international managed 131 goals and registered 74 assists in 339 games since joining the Citizens in 2015
  • Sterling, 27, had one year left on his contract but City decided to cash in on him instead

Raheem Sterling’s time as a Manchester City player is set to come to an end, with the England international set to join Chelsea.

The England international becomes the second player this summer to leave the Citizens in favor of another ‘Big Six’ side, after Gabriel Jesus sealed his move to Arsenal.

Pep Guardiola’s attack will certainly have a different look next season after the departure of Sterling and Jesus, as well as the addition of Erling Haalan from Borussia Dortmund.

The move to Chelsea is now a question of when, not if, and with the Blues set to travel to the US in the coming days, Sterling is expected to have sealed the move by then.

But where does Sterling rank in terms of important players for Pep Guardiola?

Underrated Sterling, his stats

While thinking of Manchester City legends, many will go towards the way of Sergio Aguero, Fernandinho and perhaps Kevin de Bruyne.

But if stats compiled by BBC and accolades are anything to go by, Raheem Sterling has also been a key part of Pep Guardiola’s success since coming to the Etihad in 2016.

One of the most interesting stats to prove this is the fact that, Sterling only comes in behind Lionel Messi (211) and Sergio Aguero(124) as the player who has scored most goals for Guardiola with 120 strikes since the Spaniard came to England in 2016.

In total, Sterling scored 131 goals and registered 74 assists in 339 games.

Furthermore, Sterling also ranks quite highly in terms of assists for a team managed by Guardiola.

As it turns out, he comes third in that list as well, with only Kevin de Bruyne (105) and Messi (80) getting more assists than him for Pep.

Bearing this in mind, no player has had more goal contributions for Manchester City (goals and assists combine) than Sterling, and that is quite impressive.

John Terry reacts to Raheem Sterling move

Elsewhere, Sports Brief reported of John Terry's brilliant reaction to Raheem Sterling's Chelsea move.

On Wednesday, July 13, Chelsea announced the £ 50 million signing of the 27-year-old winger, who will now link up with the team on a pre-season tour in Los Angeles.

His move to Chelsea elicited thousands of reactions from fans and players, with one of the more noticeable responses coming from John Terry, who gushed over his former team acquiring a world-class winger.
