The former Chelsea captain took to Twitter to gush over Sterling, saying:

Welcome to @ChelseaFC @sterling7. What a signing this is… Good Luck Mate."

Sterling actually has some experience in London, as he grew up in Wembley, north London, before eventually making his professional debut for Queens Park Rangers.

Liverpool went on to sign him as a 17-year-old with a lot of prospects.

Sterling’s first sentiments as a Chelsea player

Speaking to the club website, Sterling welcomed his move to Stamford Bridge as he made it clear he wanted to win trophies with the club.

"First and foremost, it's a pleasure to be here. I've obviously achieved a lot in my career so far, but there is still so much more to achieve and I’m really looking forward to doing that in a Chelsea shirt, under Thomas' management. London is my home and where it all started for me, and it's amazing I now have the opportunity to play in front of friends and family week in, week out at Stamford Bridge."

What Sterling adds to the team as told by Mount

Another player that is seemingly excited by what Sterling could potentially bring to Chelsea is Mason Mount.

Mount is relishing the chance to play alongside Raheem Sterling following the winger's switch to Stamford Bridge

The two are already teammates with the England national team, but the same will be extended to club level
