Kaizer Chiefs continued the recent dominance over Orlando Pirates, defeating the Buccaneers 1-0 at Soccer City.

Yusuf Maart scored a sensational goal to seal the deal. He collected the ball from behind the half-way line, and hit home from there after catching goalkeeper Siyabonga Mpontshane off his line.

The win handed the Amakhosi a fourth straight official win over the Buccaneers – something they have not achieved since winning six in succession in the early 1990s – and saw them rise above their rivals into third place on the log on 21 points. Pirates dropped to fifth spot on 19 points.

Pirates looked for a quick response through shots from Saleng and Motshwari which flashed off target, but those hopeful efforts were as close as they came to finding an equaliser, as Chiefs saw out the remainder of the match with grim determination in defence.

Pirates will next be in action on Saturday 5 November when they face AmaZulu in the MTN8 final, while Chiefs’ next match will be against the Buccaneers in the revamped Carling Black Label Cup on Saturday 12 November.

Soweto Derby: Terror attack threat sees security beefed up for Orlando Pirates vs Kaizer Chiefs match

Stadium Management South Africa has assured extra security precautions are in place ahead of the Soweto Derby on Saturday.

On Wednesday, the United States issued an alert that terrorists were planning to conduct an attack on large gatherings of people in the Sandton area. Soccer City, which will host the derby with an expected 93 000 people in attendance, is in the Nasrec precinct, about 25 kilometres away from the leafy suburb.

The stadium's management, however, has assured the public that there is no immediate threat that would otherwise derail the logistics involved in planning the derby.
