Football players, coaches and fans are still coming to terms with Jomo Cosmos’ relegation from South Africa’s professional leagues.

Kaizer Chiefs’ Arthur Zwane is the latest coach to share his thoughts on the legendary club’s drop from the top.

Zwane’s career began at Cosmos, and the club will always hold a special place in his heart. As reported by Times LIVE, Zwane said that Cosmos’ drop must serve as a lesson to other clubs.

Zwane also commented on how the club gave him, and many other players, an opportunity to make a name for themselves. One of the most prominent names to come out Jomo Cosmos is Pitso Mosimane. Mosimane has gone on to achieve great success and is the current coach of Al Ahly.

“It is bad for SA football because Cosmos has a rich history. It must serve as a lesson to other clubs that there are no shortcuts in this game,” Zwane added.

While the rest of the country is saddened by the news, coach Jomo Sono remains in good spirits.

Sono added that he has accepted that his side will play in the ABC Motsepe League tomorrow and he won’t try to buy the status of another club to get back into the GladAfrica Championship, Goal.com reported.

“I’m not going to buy someone else's status. I don’t have a problem with people who do that but I’m not going to do it. If I’m relegated, I’m going to play in the ABC Motsepe League,” Sono said.

Sono added that he would still be involved with football, so he had no reason to be sad about the outcome. He added that it was not like he would be taking up a new sport and he would still be doing something he loved.

Jomo Cosmos relegated to ABC Motsepe League, Ezenkosi to play in the amateur leagues after 39 years at the top

It’s the end of an era in South African football as Jomo Cosmos were officially relegated from the professional football leagues. Ezenkosi have been competing in the professional leagues for 39 years and are one the staples of the South African soccer scene.

The club was relegated to the GladAfrica Championship from the DStv Premiership at the end of the 2015/16 season and has been there ever since. Fans hoped they would return to the DStv Premiership, but the club dwindled.

This weekend, Cosmos’ fate was sealed when they could only manage a draw with fellow relegation-threatened side, TS Sporting, Times LIVE reported. However, a win would not have helped the side either as Pretoria Callies, the only side Cosmos could have leapfrogged, won their game against Polokwane City.
