Kwadwo Asamoah has revealed that not winning the Africa Cup of Nations remains one of his regrets after an illustrious football career.

The 33-year-old retired from the game last week after two decades plying his trade in Italy.

Asamoah, who won several trophies with Juventus, did not hide his disappointment of not replicating his club success with the Black Stars. Asamoah was a key figure as Ghana reached the final of the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations in Angola.

"We were so close to winning the Africa Cup of Nations many times, and we never did it," Asamoah told the BBC.

"We've been chasing this for some 30 years now; we got to the final three times, but never managed to win it.
"I know you need to accept these things, you can't win everything, but this is something I would have really loved to bring home for my country."

Ghana are four times champions of Africa, but have not won the competition since 1982 despite reaching the final three times after their last success.

Kwadwo Asamoah played 74 times and scored four goals for the Black Stars. He was part of the team at the 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cup.

At club level, he was six Italian Serie A titles, four Coppa Italian and three Super Coppa Italia with Juventus.

Kwadwo Asamoah retires from football

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that former Ghana and Juventus midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah has retired from football and become a football agent.

The 33-year-old enjoyed an illustrious career in Italy, where he played for Udinese, Juventus, Inter Milan and Cagliari.
