Former captain of the senior men's national team - Black Stars - Asamoah Gyan has picked Al Ain as the best club he has ever played for.

Gyan, currently unattached, played for Al Ain between 2011 and 2015 where he won a plethora of individual and team accolades.

The Ghanaian remains Al Ain's second-highest scorer of all time with 128 goals, 52 shy of record goalscorer Ahmed Abdullah.

In a recent visit to the United Arab Emirates, Ghana's record goalscorer was honoured by Al Ain.

In appreciation to the warm gesture shown by Al Ain, Gyan who was left in awe disclosed his unyielding love to the club and went a step further to pick the most successful Emirati club as the best outfit he has played for in his career.

"It is difficult for me to express my feelings towards Al-Ain, the great club that I love and adore, and in which I spent a wonderful period, and I have memories that cannot fall from my memory, and I will not reveal a secret if I tell you that I consider it the best club ever for me, and personally, I am very happy to be back in my big home," added Asamoah Gyan.

Asamoah Gyan's storied playing career

The 36-year-old's career can be likened to a journeyman having played for clubs across three continents.

Despite featuring in three of the esteemed five leagues in Europe, Gyan had greater success in Asia where he excelled for Al Ain winning the top scorer award in the Emirati top division on three occasions.

Aside from his excellence in Asia, the 2010 BBC African Footballer of the Year gained global attention when he guided Ghana to the quarterfinals of the FIFA World Cup staged in South Africa.

He remains Ghana's all-time top scorer with 51 goals having featured in three World Cup tournaments.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Asamoah Gyan has been presented with a plaque and a jersey by former club Al Ain after visiting the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday.

The club honoured the former Ghana captain following his legendary stint with the club between 2011 to 2015.

In a statement posted on the club's official website, Asamoah Gyan expressed gratitude to the club for their warm welcome.
