Casemiro was in the spotlight of Manchester United’s 4-0 loss to Crystal Palace last night for his performance as a makeshift centre-back due to the team's current injury crisis.

The Brazilian midfielder captained the side to one of their most embarrassing performances of the season, and it was hard to tell that he was winning trophies at Real Madrid years ago.

Per Squawka, he was dribbled past eight times - four times in each half - the most for a player in the Premier League this season to sum up a difficult night for the midfielder.

Sports Brief highlights five world-class players whose reputations took a dent at Manchester United.

Players who dipped at Manchester United

1. Cristiano Ronaldo

The Portuguese forward returned to United for a second spell, having won five Ballon d'Or awards and impressing in his first season with 24 goals. His second season was horrible and many said he was 'finished'. He has proved this wrong by dazzling at Al-Nassr and scoring the most goals globally in 2023 - 54 - according to Goal.

2. Bastian Schweinsteiger

Per Manutd.com, he was the first German to play for United when he joined from Bayern Munich in 2015. His time at the club was complicated by Jose Mourinho sending him to the reserves to train. He left the club a few months later and joined the Chicago Fire in MLS, where he retired in 2019.

3. Alexis Sanchez

In January 2018, United and Arsenal had a swap deal for Sanchez and Henrikh Mkhitaryan. The forward became the first Chilean to play a competitive game for the club. He struggled and was loaned to Inter Milan, a deal made permanent in 2020. He is still in Italy, having spent a season at Marseille between.

4. Angel Di Maria

The Argentine left Real Madrid for England after winning the 2014 UEFA Champions League, and it quickly turned out to be a wrong decision. He never settled on and off the pitch, and after one season, he left to join Paris Saint-Germain, where he has rediscovered himself.

5. Diego Forlan

Forlan was signed by United in 2002 from Independiente but struggled to settle in his first season in European football. He was shipped to Villarreal in 2004, and his career has picked up from there.

Carragher sends message to Casemiro

Sports Brief also reported on Jamie Carragher sending a message to Casemiro to assess his career at the top level after a disasterclass against Crystal Palace.

The English pundit echoed suggestions from the fans that the legendary midfielder should rather leave Europe for the Saudi Pro League or Major League Soccer.
