Jamal Musiala has explained that he snubbed the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Three-Lions of England because Germany is the country of his birth and had dreams to wear the national team shirt.

The 20-year-old was born in Germany to a Nigerian father and German mother, but he grew up in England which made him eligible to play for the three nations.

Statement made by Musiala

''I’d had a tough choice to make. I regularly chatted to the people at the FA and the DFB.
“They both made it clear that they wanted me to play for them. It was a difficult decision, as I was born in Germany but most of my memories growing up are in England – both are a part of me. It was an incredible feeling to get my first Germany cap.
“It felt right pulling that shirt on and representing my birth nation. I knew that I’d made the right decision.''

Emotional Jamal Musiala opens up

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how Germany and Bayern Munich youngster Jamal Musiala broke his silence following Germany's painful exit from the 2022 World Cup.

Hansi Flick's side were tipped to reach the latter stages of the competitions, but a dreadful start saw them crash out in spectacular fashion.

The four-time World Cup winners were stunned by Japan in their opening match, losing 2-1. Despite dominating most of the match and leading 1-0 for large parts, Japan scored twice in the second half to produce a massive upset.
