Reports stated that Piqué was sent off for swearing at the referee, including making comments about his mother.
Piqué has since denied this and explained what happened, TalkSPORT reported.
The veteran defender explained that he went up to the referee to protest the decisions.
“We go into the tunnel and I told him that he always harms us. With that alone he sends me off. I’m surprised he sent me off for that.”
Piqué explained that he and some other Barcelona players went into the referee’s locker room after that. It was then that one of the players swore the referee's mother.
“The referee listens to him from his locker room and puts the words in my mouth,” Piqué added.
He did not elaborate on which teammate actually insulted the ref.
