Barcelona fans’ hope of seeing Argentine legend, Lionel Messi return to the Camp Nou has been squashed by the club’s manager Xavi.

The club’s President, Juan Laporta had raised supporters’ hopes after he revealed Messi still had unfinished business with the Catalan giants and could return to the team in the future.

Xavi has stated that it will be impossible for Barcelona to sign Lionel Messi as the Argentine still has a contract with Ligue 1 champions, Paris Saint-Germain Barca Universal reports.

“At the moment, signing Leo Messi is impossible. He has a contract with Paris. It’s not the time to talk about him.”

Messi broke his 20-year association with Barcelona last summer by signing a two-year contract with Paris Saint-Germain in August but only managed to score just six league goals in 2021-22.

Meanwhile, Barcelona are aiming to balance are books amid financial difficulties and are ready to offload as many as five first-team players when the team returns from its preseason training.

The five players in question are goalkeeper Neto, striker Martin Braithwaite, midfielder Riqui Puig and defenders Samuel Umtiti and Oscar Mingueza Sport Bible reports.

Barcelona has been unable to register their summer signings including Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha and must first sell off their old players to raise funds in order to balance their books.
