  • Bukayo Saka was not part of Arsenal's starting XI during their EPL clash against Leeds
  • The star forward had started for the Gunners in 54 consecutive Premier League matches
  • The north Londoners secured a 4-1 win during the tie to cement their place at the top of the charts

Bukayo Saka was a conspicuous miss from Arsenal's starting XI during their Premier League clash against Leeds United.

Saka has been a mainstay figure for the Gunners throughout the campaign, playing a vital role in putting the club in a pole position to win the league this term.

According to The Mirror, the youngster has started 54 consecutive Premier League games for Arsenal in a run dating back to December 2021 when the north Londoners suffered a 3-2 loss against Manchester United.

With the Englishman managing to keep himself fit through the period, many had expected him to continue that run when Arsenal hosted Leeds at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.

Saka dropped to the bench

However, the star winger was only able to make the bench for that clash, with Arteta lining up differently during the tie.

It has now emerged that the 21-year-old was dropped because he had missed training the day before the match.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, Arteta disclosed that his starman had suffered an illness on the eve of the Leeds encounter.

"He was unable to train yesterday," Artetadivulged to BBC Radio 5 Live
"He's feeling a little better today. We might still see him at some point," he added.

Meanwhile, the Gunners were still able to cope without the youngster as they registered a 4-1 to restore their eight-point lead over Man City.

A double from the returning Gabriel Jesus and a goal each from Ben White and Granit Xhaka earned the hosts the comfortable win.

Bukayo Saka's new deal

At the same time, Sports Brief has reported that Arsenal are reportedly ready to make Bukayo Saka the club's top earner in a move aimed at fending off potential admirers.

Saka has been one of Arsenal's standout players this season, with his contributions putting the club in a pole position to win the Premier League this term.

The winger is enjoying a stunning individual campaign and continues to impress with every game.
