  • Valencia CF's financial woes have been well documented and continue to plague the club's transfer policy
  • New Valencia manager Gennaro Gattuso is looking to bolster the squad ahead of the new season
  • Lucas Torreira has been linked with a move to Valencia but the Spanish club may not be able to afford the player

Valencia CF are looking to turn things around but financial difficulties continue to be a burden.

The club have only made two signings this summer, one on a free transfer and one which cost only €4 million.

The Spanish side are now looking to bring in Lucas Torreira from Arsenal, with new manager Gennaro Gattuso, said to want the player in Spain.

Torreira spent last season on loan at Fiorentina but is believed to be part of Mikel Arteta’s plans for next season.

Football Espana also reported that Torreira’s agent claimed that they were in talks with Valencia and Arsenal to facilitate the deal.

“We have a pre-agreement with Gattuso so that Torreira plays at Valencia. Today there is an important meeting about it. Mikel Arteta wants to have him for the preseason,” Pablo Betancur, Torreira’s agent said.

It remains to be seen whether Valencia can afford a player of Torreira’s stature. The club have been in debt for many years and are still not out of the red.

Valencia experienced losses of €17.1 million in the 2020/21 season which led to a mass exodus of players from the club. A lack of European football also contributed to the former giants of Spanish football failing to achieve a profit.

The Football Boardroom reported in May 2022 that Valencia’s net debt stood at €186 million.

Newly Signed Fiorentina Manager Gattuso Quits After 23 Days As Head Coach in Dispute Over Player Transfers

A former Napoli and AC Milan of Italy manager Gennaro Gattuso has departed Serie A side Fiorentina after just 23 days he was signed as head coach.

It was gathered that the tactician was at loggerheads with the kind of players the club want to sign ahead of the start of the forthcoming season.

Fiorentina wants more affordable players, but those names proposed by Gattuso and his agent Jorge Mendes are not affordable for the club.

Lucas Torreira confirms he doesn't want to stay at Arsenal, and hopes to secure a permanent move away

Arsenal's midfielder Lucas Torreira has reiterated his desire to seek a move away from the club this summer.

Torreira still has one year left on his current contract but is currently negotiating a permanent move elsewhere.

He has already spent two loan spells at Atletico Madrid and Fiorentina but the latter is not interested in extending their deal.
