  • Gabriel Jesus scored twice in his first game as an Arsenal man as the Gunners secured a 5-3 victory over German side FC Nürnberg
  • Mohamed Elneny was also on target and the win was also helped by two own goals from the home side
  • Days earlier, Arsenal also played out a 5-1 behind-closed-doors victory over Ipswich Town

Gabriel Jesus showed early signs of what he will offer for Arsenal as he helped the side come from two goals down to sink FC Nürnberg in a friendly on Friday, July 8.

The Brazilian, who recently completed a £45million transfer from Manchester City, was instrumental in his side’s victory in Germany.

Arsenal got off to the worst possible start as they found themselves behind at halftime as FC Nürnberg took a two-goal lead courtesy of Johannes Geis and Kwadwo Duah.

Arteta made couple of changes in the second half, including the introduction of Jesus to replace Emile Smith Rowe, and it did not take long for the former Man City man to make his impact.

Jesus found his debut goal for Arsenal barely 90 seconds after coming on, and fellow substitute Mohammed El Neny brought the game level seven minutes later.

An own goal by Chris Schindler three minutes later turned the game on its head, and the home side’s misery was compounded when Tim Handwerker also scored on the wrong side of the pitch to make it 4-2.

Nürnberg were no pushovers, however, as they pulled one back thanks to Lukas Schleimer’s goal, but It was Jesus once again who would have the last laugh two minutes later with his second of the afternoon.

Fans reaction

Immediately after the game, Jesus was trending worldwide for his performance in his debut. Here are some of the comments from fans online:

It doesn't get much better than that from Gabriel Jesus. Thought Martinelli and Elneny were excellent as well. Patino very bright.
Early days, but Gabriel Jesus looks absolutely incredible. He only started training a few days ago.
We got a baller on our hands. Let’s give him service only
“I'd say we've definitely the potential for top 4 this season mate. A front 3 of Saka, Jesus and Gabi Martinelli is just fire,”
Just seen Gabriel Jesus first game with Arsenal, smh tears in my eyes
