The streets of Ouagadougou were flooded by thousands of fans following the return of defender Edmond Tapsoba after a historic campaign with Bayer Leverkusen in Germany.

The Burkina Faso defender played a pivotal role in Xabi Alonso's team as they won the German Bundesliga title for the first time in their 120-year history while adding the DFB Pokal to complete the double.

Bayer Leverkusen only lost one game in the entire campaign, and it was in the Europa League final against Italian outfit Atalanta.

At the heart of the club's impressive defence in the Burkina Faso international, who formed a solid three-man backline with Ivorian Odilon Kossounou and Jonathan Tah of Germany.

In photos shared on social media, Tapsoba is seen greeted by thousands of fans as he stands in an open-top car with his medals around his neck.

"Thank you for the warm welcome," he wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

The 25-year-old will join his Burkina Faso teammates as preparations begin in earnest for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Egypt and Sierra Leone in June.

Tapsoba made 46 appearances across all competitions for Bayer Leverkusen in the just-ended campaign, per Transfermarkt.

Tapsoba and four African teammates win Bundesliga

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Burkina Faso defender, Edmond Tapsoba, led his African teammates to a historic campaign in Germany after winning the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen.

Alongside Odilon Kossounou, Nathan Tella, Victor Boniface and Amine Adli, the African quintet played an essential role in the team's success.

Tapsoba starred as the BayArena outfit ended the season with a defeat in the Bundesliga, before adding the DFB Pokal to their list of accomplishments.

Boniface hypes up teammates during celebrations

Sports Brief also reported that Nigeria forward, Victor Boniface, led the celebrations in the dressing room after Bayer Leverkusen defeated Kaiserslautern to win the DFB Pokal on Saturday, May 25.

The Super Eagles star featured as the newly-crowned German champions defeated the lower-tier side 1-0, courtesy of a Granit Xhaka strike, to end the season with a double.

Having lost the Europa League final in midweek to Atalanta, Bayer Leverkusen were poised to end the campaign on a high note.
