Do not believe everything you read on the internet, especially if it's from Liverpool fans trying to defend Jurgen Klopp winning one Premier League title in nine seasons by saying he had limited funds.

The German will leave the club at the end of the season after nine years in charge. Pending official confirmation, Feyenoord manager Arne Slot will be his replacement.

Per Transfermarkt, he spent €938.5 million on incoming transfers in 18 windows as manager, some of which were the most expensive in their positions.

Sports Brief looks at Klopp's top five most expensive signings at Liverpool.

Klopp's most expensive Liverpool signings

1. Darwin Nunez

According to Sky Sports, the £85mil, including add-ons that the Reds paid to sign Darwin Nunez from Benfica, makes him the most expensive striker in the Premier League, even more than what Manchester City paid for Erling Haaland. The Uruguayan has looked far from a player who costs that much, even though his goalscoring improved this season.

2. Virgil van Dijk

Van Dijk was the most expensive defender in the world when Klopp sanctioned a £75mil fee for his signing from Southampton in January 2018. He retained the tag for six months before Manchester United paid £80mil for Harry Maguire.

3. Alisson Becker

Per the Guardian, Liverpool paid £66.9mil for Alisson Becker from AS Roma in 2018, months after signing Van Dijk. The Brazilian was the most expensive goalkeeper for a few weeks before Chelsea paid £71.6mil for Kepa Arrizabalaga.

4. Dominik Szoboszlai

Per The Athletic, the club activated Szoboszlai’s release clause of £60.1mil before it expired on June 30, 2023, to sign the Hungarian midfielder from RB Leipzig. The midfielder is yet to settle at Merseyside and will have a new manager next season.

5. Naby Keita

The Guinean midfielder was Liverpool's record signing when they paid £52.75mil to sign him from Leipzig. He never actualised his true worth in England and struggled for fitness. He left the club last summer and joined Werder Bremen.

Seven best players of Klopp era

Sports Brief analysed the seven best players of Klopp's Liverpool era. After his announcement in January, the manager is set to leave the club at the end of the current season.

World-record signings Van Dijk and Alisson are two of the best during the German boss' time at Anfield, while academy star Trent Alexander-Arnold also got a nod.
