Chelsea have broken their silence over claims that they recently met Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim about the possibility of taking over at Stamford Bridge.

Current Blues' manager Mauricio Pochettino has come under immense pressure at the club, with a section of fans wanting him sacked after just one season in charge.

Pochettino arrived at the west London club in the summer of 2023 to become Thomas Tuchel's permanent replacement.

The Argentine has, however, endured a disappointing campaign with the 2021 Champions League winners, who are in danger of missing out on European football for the second season running.

Sporting boss Amorim was recently spotted in London, sparking rumours he is set for a move to the Premier League, with Liverpool initially thought to be angling for his services.

It was later claimed by Portuguese journalist Pedro Sepulveda that the tactician was in the capital to meet with Chelsea chiefs over the possibility of taking over from Pochettino.

Chelsea respond to Amorim speculation

Chelsea have quickly moved to shoot down the speculation, with the club denying any links with Amorim.

According to Metro UK, citing The Telegraph's Matt Law, the Premier League giants are 'absolutely adamant' they had no role in Amorim's trip to London.

It is further claimed that the club did not hold any meeting with the 39-year-old, who has since apologised to Sporting fans for taking the trip.

"Chelsea absolutely adamant that the club did not pay for a flight for Ruben Amorim to visit London last week and did not hold any meetings or talks with him," Law tweeted.

Meanwhile, it is understood that Chelsea will make a decision over the future of Pochettino at the club at the end of the season.

The West Londoners are currently marooned in ninth place on the EPL standings ahead of their derby meeting with Tottenham Hotspur on Friday night.

Pochettino gets rare backing

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on Pochettino receiving the backing of his players amid sack calls.

Pochettino's future was further questioned after his team was embarrassingly defeated 5-0 in the London derby against Arsenal on Tuesday evening.
