Arsenal's hopes of winning a maiden UEFA Champions League title came to a heartbreaking halt after they were dumped out of the quarter-finals by Bayern Munich.

Joshua Kimmich scored the game's only goal in the 63rd minute, sending the Bavarians through 3-2 on aggregate after the stalemate in North London last week.

It was a reprieve for Thomas Tuchel's side, who relinquished their 11-year hold on the Bundesliga trophy to Bayer Leverkusen over the weekend.

Leroy Sane recovered from a muscle injury and started the game for the German giants. The former Manchester City winger was instrumental in the penalty scored by Harry Kane in the first leg.

Sane 'destroys' Tomiyasu

In front of his home support, Sane pulled out a bag of tricks in the first half, leaving Takehiro Tomiyasu on the floor. Gabriel Martinelli also got duped by the sudden change of pace, leaving fans amused.

@Gabriel remarked:

"Tuchel had to check if Tomiyasu was still alive."

@Big Croner said:

"He sent him back to Japan."

While @Exfemorenelosn said:

"He’s practicing taekwondo."

The Japanese defender was brought in from the start, replacing Oleksandr Zinchenko from their 2-0 loss to Aston Villa over the weekend. Jakub Kiwior started the reverse fixture at the Emirates Stadium but was withdrawn at half-time for Zinchenko.

Arsenal will now return their focus to the Premier League race, where they sit two points off defending champions, Manchester City, who were knocked out of the UCL by Real Madrid in the night's other quarter-final clash.

Thierry Henry blames two players for Bayern defeat

Sports Brief has also reported that Thierry Henry blamed two Arsenal stars for their defeat to Bayern Munich.

The Gunners legend felt that Tomiyasu and Martinelli should have done more to prevent that goal by Kimmich.

Bayern went on through an unlikely source, as the utility player arrived late to head in a cross past David Raya.
