Chippa United are through to this season's Nedbank Cup semi-final thanks to the heroics of Nigerian goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, who is in sensational form.

The 27-year-old denied TS Galaxy's Pogiso Sanoka from the penalty spot and went on to keep a clean sheet to see his side through to the last four of the competition.

Chippa United went into the game fresh from a 2-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs in the DStv Premiership, and they performed even better in the Nedbank Cup cracker.

TS Galaxy, on the other hand, approached the fixture on the back of five unbeaten games, with their recent match ending 1-0 over SuperSport United.

Bienvenu Eva Nga opened the scoring for the Chilli Boys with a fine header in the 30th minute before Roscoe Pietersen scored from the spot in the closing minutes to win it 2-0 for his side.

GOAL reports that the visitors threw caution to the wind and had a chance to find the back of the net from the penalty spot, but Nwabali dived the right way to deny Sanoka.

After the game, the Super Eagles goalkeeper took to social media to emphasise that he had owned the goalposts.

"This is my office!! Another clean sheet in the bag, back-to-back Nedbank Cup match wins prior to great team performance. Onto the next round! Chili boys."

Meanwhile, the Premier Soccer League has announced that this year’s edition of the Nedbank Cup final will be played at the Mbombela Stadium.

The last four teams have been confirmed and the semi-final draw will see the current top two placed sides in the DStv Premiership in Stellenbosch FC up against Mamelodi Sundowns.

Meanwhile, Orlando Pirates will face Chippa United in the alternate fixture.

Kaizer Chiefs pull out of Nwabali race

Sports Brief earlier reported that Chippa United have slammed a hefty price tag on the Nigerian keeper, forcing Kaizer Chiefs to decline signing Nwabali in the summer window.

The 27-year-old attracted the interest of several clubs around the globe after starring for the Super Eagles in their run to a silver medal place at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Due to the price tag placed on Nwabali by Chippa due to this interest, Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly backed out of any deal to sign the Nigerian keeper in the transfer window.
