Pep Guardiola has sent a strong message to his Manchester City players ahead of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final second-leg tie against Real Madrid.

The two teams battled to a 3-3 draw in an intense match in the first leg at the Santiago Bernabeu, which leaves the second leg tie in England open to both sides.

Both sides have won the trophy in the last two seasons. They met in the semi-final on both occasions and the winner of the tie went on to win the competition.

Guardiola sends message to Man City players

Guardiola will not leave anything to chance tonight and has issued a warning to his players on what they must do to progress to the semi-final for the third straight season.

“Honestly, we will have to do better than in Madrid if we want to go through,” he told TNT Sports.
“We were fantastic [in the first leg], 3-3 is an incredible result, the guys gave everything, but we have to adjust something that was not as good as we should do. But at home, we feel comfortable in trying to adjust it.”

Madrid could have been in trouble if the away goal rule had been in use after conceding three goals at home, but the discontinuation of the rule gives them a real fighting chance.

Carlo Ancelotti will be wary of the threat posed by the English champions following a 4-0 loss in Manchester last year after drawing the first leg 1-1 in Spain.

Bellingham sends warning to Man City

Sports Brief reported on Jude Bellingham warning Manchester City ahead of the second leg tie of the Champions League quarter-final that the Spanish team are no pushovers.

He acknowledged their treble-winning opponents as overwhelming favourites, but Real Madrid, who have won the competition 14 times, are a force to reckon with.
