Victor Boniface scored his first goal after returning from injury to inspire Bayer Leverkusen to a first-leg victory over West Ham United in the Europa League quarter-final.

The Nigeria attacker, who was sidelined for almost four months due to an injury setback, netted late injury time to double the German side's advantage.

Boniface started from the bench and was brought on with 15 minutes remaining to replace Patrik Schick.

In a video shared on social media, the Super Eagles forward rose high to head home from a well-worked corner kick from Jonas Hoffman.

Seven minutes earlier, Hoffman had broken the deadlock after the Hammers kept it solid at the back for most of the game.

Boniface has been an incredible signing for the German outfit, scoring his 18th goal across all competitions for Leverkusen, per Transfermarkt.

His return from injury is a huge boost for the club as they edge closer to winning their first-ever German Bundesliga title while also chasing the Europa League.

The club end up winning an unprecedented treble with the DFB Pokal Cup also up for grabs.

Boniface passed fit for West Ham game

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Bayer Leverkusen had been handed a huge boost after Victor Boniface was declared fit for the West Ham game.

The Nigeria forward just returned from injury, and he is yet to make a start in any of Leverkusen's games.

However, on Thursday night he made a difference after scoring a crucial goal in the Europa League game against the Hammers in Germany.

AC Milan interested in Boniface

Sports Brief also reported that Italian giants AC Milan are keeping tabs on Victor Boniface ahead of the summer transfer window.

The 23-year-old forward has been super impressive for incoming Bundesliga champions, Bayer Leverkusen, scoring 16 goals in all competitions for the German club in his first season.

According to Football Italia, Boniface emerged as AC Milan’s preferred option to replace the departing Oliver Giroud in the summer as their primary target Joshua Zirkzee will prove too expensive.
