  • Scholes criticised the youngster and Alejandro Garnacho for how they were dressed

Former Manchester United midfielder, Paul Scholes, had some tough love for Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho after photos of the duo during a training session went viral.

Mainoo and Garnacho have been United’s shining lights in a roller-coaster season for the club, and there is no question the pair are headed for a bright future.

The duo have formed an integral part of Erik ten Hag’s team, barely two years after breaking into the team by helping them win the FA Cup.

Despite their brilliance on the pitch, neither is immune to criticism, particularly from members of the famous Manchester United 'Class of 92' lot.

Scholes was the latest figure to point out something he did not like about Mainoo and Garnacho after watching the pair in a training session at Carrington on Wednesday, April 10.

According to SPORTbible, United players were busy with drills in preparation for the game against Bournemouth, but Scholes was incensed by the fact that Mainoo and Garnacho were running around with their hoods up in the rainy weather.

In a since-deleted post, the former Manchester United midfielder said:

"Don't mind hats and gloves but no way can you train properly with your hood up. Standards begin on the training pitch... bye!"

It is unclear whether the photos were taken before or after the training session, although other images of Mainoo at the same session show him without a hood on.

Mainoo and Garnacho for Man United

Despite still being in their teens, Mainoo - 18 and Garnacho - 19 have been two of United’s best players in 2023/24.

Garnacho is second in the club’s top scorers this season, with only Rasmus Hojlund scoring more goals than the Argentine, according to Transfermarkt.

Meanwhile, Mainoo’s performances have been so solid that he appears set to make Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the upcoming Euro 2024.

Rooney suggests Rashford should leave

Elsewhere, Sports Brief reported on Wayne Rooney’s solution to Marcus Rashford’s woes amid the latter's struggles.

Rooney, who is United’s all-time top goal-scorer, believes Rashford could rediscover himself if he leaves Old Trafford.

The United academy graduate has hit a rough patch this season and his manager is another figure said to be at risk.
