Raphael Varane bid his final farewell to the Old Trafford fans last night after Manchester United beat Newcastle United in their final home match of the season.

The former France international will leave the club at the expiration of his contract after three seasons and is open to trying a new adventure next season.

He is not short of options, both in Europe and abroad.

Sports Brief looks at five clubs he could join ahead of next season.

Five clubs Varane could join

1. RC Lens

Varane came through Lens Academy and made his professional debut in 2010 before joining Real Madrid after one season. Per Foot Mercato, the club are aware of his intention to return, but their interest is in the preliminary stages. He wants to retire at one of his former clubs, and the Ligue 1 team are the most likely option.

2. Al-Ittihad

The Saudi Pro League side have been eyeing the defender since last summer, and we're willing to sign him for a fee in January, but he stayed at United. Per 90min, they have readied an offer of €30 million salary per season, amongst other earning opportunities. His compatriots Karim Benzema and N’Golo Kante play for the club.

3. Al-Nassr

Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr are the second Saudi club interested in the former Madrid defender. If he joins the Riyadh-based club, he will be expected to partner former Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte in defence.

4. Galatasaray

The 31-year-old still attracts interest from top European clubs, with Turkish champions Galatasaray. Per Tribal Football, Gala have had the soon-to-be free agent on their radar for months and are ready to make an offer to him.

There are rumours linking him to Major League Soccer, with Team Talk speculating he could join one of the Los Angeles clubs.

Varane recreates Iniesta's iconic photo

Sports Brief reported on Varane recreating Andres Iniesta's iconic photo where the Barcelona legend sat alone inside the centre circle at Camp Nou after playing his final game.

The French defender was at Old Trafford for the final time yesterday, where Manchester United beat Newcastle. He sat in the centre circle, feeling the atmosphere for the final time.
