  • Ruben Amorim has dropped a hint he could leave Sporting CP
  • He admitted he can not guarantee his future like Xabi Alonso
  • Liverpool have reportedly made him their no.1 priority target

Liverpool and other top European clubs interested in Ruben Amorim have been thrown into a high alert after he dropped a hint over his future at Sporting Lisbon.

The Reds are in an active search for a new manager to replace Jurgen Klopp, who announced in January that he would leave the club after nine years in charge.

Several names are on the consideration list, including former midfielder Xabi Alonso and Amorim, who is dubbed the next Jose Mourinho because of his similarities to the Special One.

Amorim drops future hint

Sporting Lisbon and Benfica are set to clash tomorrow in the top-of-the-table encounter. Only one point separates the two sides, even though the city's red side has played a game more.

Speaking ahead of the Derby de Lisboa, the manager confirmed to O Jogo that he can not guarantee his future in his home country beyond the current season.

“No, I can't guarantee it,” he said when asked about his future. “Sporting is already dealing with the future, I can't decide. I gave my word and I can't go back.
“If we don't win titles, I will leave Sporting. It was clear from the beginning, it was the bet I conveyed to the players. We have to win titles. First, we'll see if we can do it and then we'll decide things. It's not a worry, the future has been planned for a long time.”
“We're outlining all the situations for next season. So I can't guarantee that I'll stay, we have to win titles. And we are on the right path,” he added.

Per The Athletic, Liverpool's other target confirmed last week that he will remain at the Bay Arena, as he believes it is the right place for him, despite interest from other clubs.

De Zerbi sends warning to Brighton

Sports Brief reported on Roberto De Zerbi warning Brighton over his future after reports that he is one of the candidates under consideration to replace Klopp.

The Italian manager claimed he would meet with the club owners to learn the direction their project is taking before deciding what is next for his future.
