  • Thiago Silva's current contract with Chelsea will expire at the end of the season
  • The Brazilian is unlikely to continue at Stamford Bridge when his deal expires
  • Silva has made 29 appearances for the Blues across competitions this season

Chelsea defender, Thiago Silva, is all but set to rejoin Brazilian club Fluminense this summer.

Silva's future at Stamford Bridge is hanging in the balance, with the former Paris Saint-Germain star in the final months of his contract with the Blues.

According to Goal, the 39-year-old is said to be in contact with his boyhood club ahead of his proposed emotional reunion with the side.

The development comes at a time when Silva has played a key part in Mauricio Pochettino's team this season, having already made 29 appearances across all competitions.

However, despite his otherwise important role in the team, the experienced centre-back will unlikely continue at Chelsea beyond this season.

Fluminense chief hints at Silva reunion

Fluminense director Fred has already commented on Silva's situation at Stamford Bridge, hinting that the club are keen to reunite with the defender.

Speaking to ESPN, the club chief noted that 'the doors are wide open' for the former player to return.

“Thiago Silva has been a dream of ours for a long time, the president talks to him almost every week," he said, per Fabrizio Romano.
“Thiago knows that here the doors are wide open for him”.
“We don’t want to put pressure on him but one day, Thiago will return," he added.

Silva spent two and a half seasons at Fluminense before he made his debut in European football when he moved to AC Milan.

Silva's wife apologises for viral tweet

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on Silva's wife, Belle, apologising for a post she made suggesting the club should sack Pochettino after the Blues' disappointing 4-2 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers at Stamford Bridge.

The wife of the Chelsea star went viral for saying the club needed to make a change.

Her sentiments sparked mixed reactions among fans, with some claiming the wag went overboard.
