The 63-year-old expressed gratitude to Nigerians for their support during his tenure as the national team coach, urging fans to continue backing the players.
“I want to thank all Nigerians and the entire press for the interest, support, and encouragement given to the Super Eagles while I was their coach. I would like to ask all of you to always support your players,” said Peseiro, as quoted by his Twitter handle.
The Nigeria job is now vacant
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) officially opened applications for the Super Eagles coaching position after concluding negotiations without extending Peseiro's contract.
Despite guiding the Nigerian national team to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final, disagreements over salary terms arose between Peseiro and the NFF.
Initially agreeing to a reduced salary of $50,000 before the AFCON tournament, Peseiro found the same offer post-tournament inadequate, as reported by Soccernet.
