  • The next destination of Victor Osimhen continues to generate debate
  • The Nigerian forward is set to depart Napoli in the summer window
  • John Mikel Obi has reported on which club Osimhen wants to join

The future of Victor Osimhen is becoming a topic of interesting debate as the 2023/24 season winds down.

The marquee forward, who is back to good form, has found the back of the net five times in three games for Napoli since returning from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The current goal-scoring run currently experienced by Osimhen has sparked many conversations regarding where he will be playing football next season.

A plethora of clubs, including English powerhouses, Chelsea and Arsenal, and French Ligue 1 giants, Paris Saint-Germain, have reportedly expressed interest in acquiring the services of the dynamic forward.

With speculation encircling the future of the 2023 CAF Africa Player of the Year, former Nigerian midfielder, John Mikel Obi, has provided insight into the club that Osimhen may harbour an inclination toward joining.

Mikel on Osimhen’s future

In a recent interview captured by transfer expert, Ben Jacobs, the 37-year-old shared his belief that Chelsea is keenly interested in Osimhen and that the striker is also seriously looking at joining the club.

"I think there is genuine interest from both sides. I believe he loves the club and wants to join too. He aims to follow in my footsteps as a Nigerian player who has played for Chelsea," Mikel stated.

The Super Eagles legend also detailed his communication with Osimhen, advising the forward to not expect too much.

"He has also looked at London, a fantastic city. Instead of going to Liverpool or other places, you'd want to live in London. However, he has a lot of interest from PSG, and Manchester United, but I am persistently pushing him... I'm advising him to focus on one club, the Blues.
"I am hopeful he joins Chelsea because he would be a huge asset. One thing we lack, and anyone who watched the final on Sunday would see, is goals."

Mikel went on to emphasise that Mauricio Pochetinno’s side are in need of a striker who can score goals, and that is exactly what the Napoli star is expected to bring to the table.

The former Chelsea midfielder's words will undoubtedly add another layer to what is shaping up to be a compelling transfer saga. Nonetheless, the immediate future of these talismanic forwards remains uncertain.

Napoli president provides update on Osimhen’s future

Sports Brief also reported on Aurelio De Laurentiis, Napoli's president, providing an update on Osimhen and his future with the club.

The 74-year-old admitted it would be difficult to keep a player like the Nigerian forward due to rich clubs showing interest in him.
