  • Victor Osimhen's stay at Napoli beyond this summer is not guaranteed, due to interest from top sides
  • The Nigerian international has been reportedly linked with a move to Arsenal and Chelsea in the EPL
  • President, Aurelio De Laurentiis, has come out to give an update on the Super Eagles striker's future

Napoli president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, has given an update on Victor Osimhen amid reported interest from top European clubs over a summer move.

The Nigerian international recently signed a new contract with the Italian champions, which saw his release clause also increase.

The Super Eagles striker appears to have regained his form with Napoli after struggling to impress at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Several top clubs have been said to be interested in signing the Napoli striker in the summer, with Arsenal and Chelsea being on top of the list.

Manchester City and French Ligue 1 giants, Paris Saint-Germain, are also said to be monitoring the Nigerian striker's situation in Italy.

In an update shared by transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, De Laurentiis said it would be difficult to keep a player like Osimhen with rich clubs showing interest in him.

"Some players stay for many years, others are wanted by PSG, Arsenal, Man City, Chelsea. It's difficult to keep players when they are wanted by rich clubs," he remarked.

The president also confirmed there is a high release clause in Osimhen's new contract, and parting with the Super Eagles star would require a huge investment from any club keen on the Nigerian's services.

"I can confirm there's a release clause, a very high one," De Laurentiis said.

With Osimhen among a number of star football players with uncertain club futures, the summer window is set to be particularly interesting.

Osimhen matches Maradona’s Napoli record

Sports Brief previously reported that Osimhen matched Diego Maradona's record and that of fellow Napoli legend, Attila Sallustro after scoring against Sassuolo.

The Super Eagles striker is now among elite company at his club, becoming the only the third Napoli player to score at least 10 Serie A goals in four straight seasons.
