  • Victor Osimhen is expected to leave Serie A champions, Napoli, at the end of the season
  • The Nigerian international is said to be on the radar of a number of clubs such as Chelsea
  • Manchester United are said to be keen on bringing the former Lille striker to Old Trafford

Amid uncertainty over his future, Nigerian international, Victor Osimhen, is said to be a subject of 'keen interest' from English Premier League giants, Manchester United.

The 25-year-old helped the Super Eagles finish as runners-up at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, and the latest reports have it that United are keen on landing the forward during the summer transfer window.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is set to acquire a 25 per cent minority stake in the Old Trafford outfit, with new players expected to arrive in his wake.

The Premier League has given the go-ahead for Raticliffe's bid, and the deal is expected to be finalised by next week - at the latest.

The Punch reports that manager, Erik ten Hag, is also looking to bolster the defence, while efforts are underway to also sign a striker to complement Rasmus Hojlund's efforts.

It is believed that United are prepared to battle Chelsea for Osimhen, with Ratcliffe’s funds and UEFA Champions League qualification allowing the club to sign the former Lille striker.

Stamford Bridge outfit, Chelsea, have long been considered the favourites among Premier League clubs to land him, but United could be a more attractive destination.

Osimhen is expected to leave Napoli in the summer, despite recently penning a one-year extension with a new release clause believed to be around €120-€130 million.

Napoli concerned over Osimhen's fitness status

Sports Brief earlier reported that Super Eagles striker, Osimhen returned to club duties after leading Nigeria to a second-place finish at AFCON 2023 in Ivory Coast.

The 25-year-old striker played a significant part in the continental championship but now remains a major doubt for the Italian side, who have slumped to the mid-table.

Reports have it that Osimhen lost between three and four kilograms during the AFCON competition due to stress and he is said to be also dealing with notable fatigue.
