Afrobeat star and Grammy winner Burna Boy has congratulated the Super Eagles for their victory over South Africa to book a place in the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Nigeria qualified for the AFCON final after defeating Bafana Bafana 4-2 via penalties after the semi-final clash had ended 1-1 after extra-time in Bouake, with Kelechi Iheanacho scoring the winning spot-kick.

According to the Vanguard, the famous Nigerian singer disclosed he cannot wait to watch the final against Ivory Coast on Sunday after posting a congratulatory message to the Super Eagles on X (formerly Twitter).

Burna Boy joins several Nigerian celebrities who have congratulated the Super Eagles for their latest feat at the AFCON as the Super Eagles push to secure another continental trophy.

Nigeria have won the AFCON on three previous occasions, in 1980, 1994, and 2013 and will be aiming to win its fourth title when they tackle host nation Ivory Coast in the final on Sunday, February 11.

Ekong dreams of lifting trophy

Meanwhile, Super Eagles vice-captain William Troost-Ekong says lifting the Africa Cup of Nations trophy would be an amazing moment for him and Nigerians after the victory against South Africa, BBC reports.

The Super Eagles beat South Africa 4-2 on penalties to reach Sunday's final in Abidjan, their first in 11 years, where they will face tournament hosts Ivory Coast, who defeated DR Congo 1-0 in the second semi-final.

Since the end of the last 16, when holders Senegal, Morocco, and record seven-time champions Egypt all lost, the Super Eagles have been the top-ranked team in the competition.

Nwabali is Nigeria’s amazing hero

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Nigeria clinched their spot in the final of 2023 AFCON with a hard-fought victory over South Africa thanks to the heroics of goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali.

Despite being three-time Cup of Nations champions and entering the pivotal showdown as favourites, Nigeria did not have it easy in the match against Bafana Bafana.

Nwabali would eventually prove the decider of the tie after saving two penalty kicks to ensure the Super Eagles progressed to their first AFCON final since 2013 as Nigerian won 4-2 via shootouts.
