Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has been one of the most criticised members of the Nigerian squad at the ongoing 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.

Fans have called out the former Arsenal midfielder numerous times concerning his inability to create chances for the Super Eagles forwards.

Nigeria is one of the lowest-scoring nations in the competition, having only scored five goals thus far.

During the pre-match press conference ahead of Angola's quarter-final clash, as gathered by Sports Brief, Iwobi explained his role in the team and named other creative players in the Super Eagles squad.

"I have been told to manage the ball and keep the ball for my team," he said.
"I mean, you don't really need much from me when you have creative players upfront; there's Victor [Osimhen], Samuel Chukwueze, Ademola Lookman, Simon Moses, there is a lot of creative going up front."

The Fulham midfielder went further to disclose what he brings to the team despite being criticised for not being creative enough in the tournament so far.

"So the role Frank [Onyeka] and I have been told to play is to control the game as much as we can, but first, we must always defend as a team," he added.
"Whether it's me creating because there will always be other quality players that can do the job, I am just trying to do my job for the team and anything to help the team win, that's all."

Ugbade discloses how Nigeria can beat Angola

Sports Brief earlier reported on former Super Eagles defender Nduka Ugbade explaining how Nigeria can defeat Angola in the AFCON 2023 quarter-final stage.

The match will be held at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan on Friday, February 2.
