In an exclusive interview with Sports Brief after the game, Okocha stated that the Nigerian team had a good game considering how challenging it is to play against the hosts.

"We played very well, we did very well. It was not easy against the host."

The former PSG midfielder and 1994 AFCON winner also gave insight into what the team had done to earn the hard-fought win over the Elephants.

"Well, we have to take it game by game; we showed a lot of character today, discipline, and played as a team. This gives us hope; we know we have a good team, but we were a bit worried if they are going to gel today. They showed that they've got what it takes to go far in this competition."

Okocha also admitted that he was a bit nervous now that he is a fan and not a player.

"Definitely, I am always tensed, but I look calm off the pitch. As a fan now, I always feel a bit nervous, but I think it is part of the game."

Okocha visits Super Eagles

Sports Brief previously reported on Austin Jay Jay Okocha paying a courtesy visit to the Super Eagles team ahead of their game against Ivory Coast.
