The 31-year-old will join his Egypt teammates for preparations ahead of the tournament in Ivory Coast this week.

Ahead of AFCON 2023, the lethal forward disclosed his ambition of adding a Nations Cup medal to his illustrious trophy cabinet.

"I want to win the competition and I would love it. Without me, I’m sure the players can win the games. We have fantastic players… Anyone can play in my position and do what I’m doing, everyone just needs to feel free!" he said in the post-match presser ahead of the game against Newcastle.

The Pharaohs have been drawn in Group B alongside four-time champions Ghana, Cape Verde, and Mozambique. Egypt opens their AFCON campaign with a game against Mozambique on January 13.

Meanwhile, Salah broke the deadlock in the game against Newcastle United moments after the break, having missed a first-half penalty, as reported by The Guardian.

Alexander Isak levelled for the Magpies in the 54th minute but two quick-fire goals from Curtis Jones and Cody Gakpo restored Liverpool's advantage.

Sven Botman reduced the deficit with nine minutes remaining but Salah sealed victory from the spot late in the game.
