Manchester United legends Wayne Rooney, Roy Keane, and Andy Cole have lavished praise on youngster, Amad Diallo, after his performance against Newcastle United.

The Ivorian scored a belter as the Red Devils ended their winless run to beat the Magpies 3-2 at Old Trafford on Wednesday night, May 15.

Having limped against Arsenal on Sunday, the former Atalanta forward passed a late fitness test to make the team for their final home game of the season.

Man United's record goal-scorer, Wayne Rooney, told Sky Sports after the match that he believes Diallo is staking his claim in the first team.

"Obviously, he has done well as Sunderland and he has done well when he has come into the team. I think for the young lads, they have to look at the future of the club and there is an opportunity for them."

Likewise, Keane believes the problems at the Old Trafford outfit could present a chance for the young players to make their names at the club.

"That's a bit of a plus. Sometimes when you are at a big club and they have problems, that's where the young lads are pushed in and sometimes they are not ready, but he took that opportunity."
Cole added: "I think [Diallo] has waited a long time to get into the team. Now he's been given the opportunity in the last few games. He has done well. Finally got his first goal."

Fellow youngsters, Kobbie Mainoo and Rasmus Hojlund, were also on target for the Red Devils against Newcastle.

United will end their campaign with a trip to Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday, per Sporting News.
