  • A clip showing some of Luis Suarez’s best finishes is circulating on social media
  • The Uruguayan icon ended his European stint in 2022 when he joined Nacional
  • Suarez is regarded among the best of this generation despite his controversies

A football fan has created an interesting clip to show why Luis Suarez is the 'best player of this generation after Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi'.

The Uruguayan plays for Gremio in Brazil, although reports have suggested he will leave the club at the end of 2023 to link up with the Argentine in MLS.

36-year-old Suarez is well past his prime but as the football saying goes, class is permanent and he still has a boatload of skill to offer in the US.

One X (formerly Twitter) user, @WilcoFtbl recently saw their post on the social media platform trending after sharing an interesting clip showing just how good Suarez was at his prime.

The video on the platform showed some of the Uruguayan international’s best moments with Barcelona and Liverpool, two clubs where he arguably played his best football.

In the caption, the user claimed:

“Luis Suarez is the 3rd best player of our generation and nobody can tell me otherwise.”

Interestingly, no one seemed to argue with the bold claim in the comments, as the clip attached to the claim perhaps justified the possibly contentious sentiments.

Luis Suarez's career stats

In terms of career statistics, 36-year-old Suarez is only one of a handful of modern football legends who have more than 500 career goals.

This includes 68 goals for his national team Uruguay, which puts him first in the list of all-time goal scorers, according to Transfermarkt.

In 2013/2014, while playing for Liverpool, Suarez won the Golden Boot with 31 goals, a haul which at the time equalled the league record.

He missed the first five games of the season, but still managed to beat the likes of Sergio Aguero and Harry Kane to emerge as the top scorer.

Another Liverpool legend, Peter Crouch also recently hailed Suarez as one of the most technically gifted players of this generation.

"Suárez could do things that no one else could do," Crouch said in a Hot Take session on TNT Sports. "That season was unbelievable for Suárez, almost led Liverpool - or dragged Liverpool, really - to the title."

Football legends who never won UCL

Sports Brief also reported on some of the biggest football legends who never won the UEFA Champions League.

This came after Mario Balotelli trolled Zlatan Ibrahimovic about having never hoisted Europe's most elite trophy.

Ronaldo Nazario, Diego Maradona, and Gianluigi Buffon are among some legends not listed among UCL winners.
